Sadly, not all of us girls with curly hair know how to dry our hair correctly. Not drying curly hair properly can cause a hell of a lot of problems that are frustrating as well as annoying. So today, let’s take a look together to see how we can dry curly hair properly and better care for our hair.

Why You Need To Dry Curly Hair Properly

Not drying curly hair properly can cause it to unravel and not take shape properly. Even worse, by over-exposing it to heat from the hairdryer, you can make your hair more damaged and vulnerable, thus making it easier to snap and break.

If your hair is heat-treated or chemicals treated, chances are your hair already damaged and easier to break. Drying fragile hair in the wrong way can cause dryness, make it brittle and more coarse. Normal towels won’t cut it either if you’re violently drying your hair with it.

#1: Let your hair air dry.

Air drying is the best choice for the ultimate curl definition. All you have to do is switch out your normal towels for a microfiber one or t-shirt and blot your hair dry with it to remove excess moisture.

For extra caution, use a leave-in conditioner and scrunch a good amount of product into your curls. Gently massage it from the ends towards the roots. Remember to keep your hands away from your hair while it is air drying, as this can lead to frizz. If you suffer from extremely frizzy hair, you can apply more products when your hair is wet. Just remember to scrunch out the crunch to break the hard cast of your styling product when your hair is fully dry.

#2: Using a diffuser.

Not all of us have the time to let our hair air dry. Some can take hours for everything to be air-dried. If you have to use a blow dryer though, just make sure to use a diffuser attachment on your blow dryer.

When your hair’s still not completely dry, flip your head upside down and cup your curls in the diffuser and turn the diffuser on. Use a low heat setting to avoid heat damage. Repeat this process with other hair sections until all of your hair is completely dried. It isn’t the best way to dry your curly hair, but still better than your normal blow-dry.

#3:  Hooded dryer.

Another great tool that is helpful in speeding up your drying time is the hooded dryer, especially when setting wash & go’s, twist outs, and roller sets. Yes, they can be quite expensive, but they’re a time saver for your hairstyles and can also improve your deep conditioning regimen.

They’re worth the investment. You won’t regret it once you have tried it out.

#4: Plopping.

Another amazing and effective technique to dry your curly hair is plopping. Use a t-shirt or microfiber towel to “accordion” your curls for curlier results, faster drying time, and less frizz. Start by laying a long-sleeved shirt or towel on a chair or counter. The sleeves should be the closest to you. Then, flip your head forward and place your curls in the center of the towel. Simply fold the bottom of the shirt or towel over your curls to the base of your neck, and tie the sleeves in a knot to keep everything in place.

#5: Clip the roots.

For girls who have bouncy curls at the ends but roots that dry flat to your head, you may want to try clipping your roots while they dry. When your hair is still wet, lift your hair away from your head by leaning over to the side. Clip-on duckbill clips at the roots so that the mouth of the clip points away from your roots. Repeat this step in small sections at the crown of your head.

Wait for at least 15 minutes to make sure your hair is drying properly, then carefully remove the clips.

#6: Stretched.

Stretched styles like braids, Bantu knots, twists, or bands while your hair is drying can work to stretch your natural texture. This is a heatless way to alter your curl pattern temporarily. This technique has been used as it can prevent tangles and breakage. By wearing your hair in a wash & go, you might need longer detangling sessions at the end of the week.

There are many different stretched styles to choose from. Pick the one that you feel most comfortable with and give it a try.

#7: In your car
